Environment Club


Launched officially in 2001 in collaboration with Delhi Government, the club has been a cauldron of environment related activities. The Environment Club aims at providing environmental education that sensitizes students towards environmental issues and encourages them to preserve the same.

  • The waste paper collection drive resulted in 500 kg of waste paper being given for 100% recycling to Raddi Express, an initiative of Recypa India Pvt Ltd.
  • Environment club updated its display board and focused on the theme `Human Resources`
  • Green Olympiad, organized by TERI, was held in the school premises for 33 students of Middle and Secondary department on 3 September 2015.
  • Members of the senior Department participated in `Econorm`, an inter-school competition organized by DPS, R K Puram, in August. They prepared and uploaded on YouTube a short film on Electricity Conservation in Hotels. The film got maximum number of views.
  • On the occasion of the International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer, 16 September 2015, Ozone Cell, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, organized a variety of competitions, namely, Poster Design; Painting; and Slogan Writing. Students in the age group of 13 to 17 years participated. The school received a 'Certificate of Appreciation' for active participation in the competition.
  • Students of classes IV and V participated in a classroom activity in which they learnt about ozone depletion and damage caused by CFCs and made a wall display portraying the same.
  • On 9 September 2015, Ms S K Jain and six members of the Club participated in `Webinar` conducted by CSE to initiate the audit of Waste Management in the school.
  • After much effort, a Paper Recycling machine was procured from Ministry of Forests and Environment in the first week of May. The process of installation is going on and it shall become operational soon.

  • Two students each from secondary and middle departments participated in Green Gold, an Inter school competition, in the events 'Rangoli on Acquatic life' and 'Best Out of Waste' organized by Kulachi Hansraj Model school, Ashok Vihar, Delhi.
  • In an Interschool competition organized by Ministry of Forests and Environment, four posters on the topic 'Sustainable Environment' were sent from middle and senior departments. The results are awaited.
  • Mrs Malini D Chawla attended a workshop on Effective Waste Management organized by Centre for Science and Environment on 7 May 2015.
  • On the occasion of Earth Day on 22 April 2015, members of the club organized a special morning assembly.
  • World Environment Day was celebrated on 7 July 2015
  • A PPT on 'Water Conservation' was shown to students of class VIII to create awareness and discourage wastage of water.
  • 110 kg of waste paper was collected and sent for recycling to Recypa India Pvt. Ltd.
  • Global Handwashing Day was observed on 15 October 2014. In the assembly students took a pledge to clean their hands properly before taking their meals and spread awareness about the importance of hand-washing
  • Anti Cracker Campaign was launched in the school during the fortnight before Diwali.
  • Cummins India Pvt.Ltd, leading manufacturer of diesel & natural gas engines and generators, conducted an environmental campaign 'Coach Them Young' in collaboration with 'ivolunteer' - a social enterprise. The purpose was to create and reinforce awareness amongst children on protecting environment and living sustainably. The Campaign consisted of a  45 minutes seminar, in which videos were shown followed by discussion among the students regarding environment and pollution.  Three rounds of the workshops were held on 20 Nov 2014 and about nine hundred students participated.
  • Staff members and students signed a pledge to observe 'No Meat Day' on 25 November 2014 to commemorate the 135th birth anniversary of Sadhu Vasvani.
  • A wooden 'Sparrow House' has been placed on a tree in the PT ground.
  • Gradual disappearance of the bird, Sparrow, from the city has been a cause of concern for environmentalist. One of the factors being the new architectural designs of building facades which offer no nooks or corners for sparrows to build nests. As a small step in this direction  a wooden  sparrow house has been placed on a tree in the PT ground. 
  • Students of Environment Club set up a stall to showcase their activities during Winter Carnival.
  • Vermicompost pit is being used regularly.
  • Results for Green Olympiad conducted by TERI in which 31 students participated is awaited.
  • Children participated in the project 'Clean and Green Delhi' and won numerous prizes and awards.
  • 'Anti Littler Campaign' is being followed regularly by the club volunteers.
  • Dr Amardeep Singh, Senior Scientist with Central Soil and Mineral Research Station gave a presentation to class XI students titled "International Water-a Cause of Cooperation or Conflict?"
  • Waste paper for the purpose of donation for recycling is being collected by the club members of Middle and Senior departments. 269 kg of waste paper was picked up by India Recypa Pvt. Ltd. On 7 July 2014 from the school premises.
  • Club members of classes IV to XII participated in an environment related inter school competition, 'Green Gold' organized at Kulachi Hansraj Model School on 25 April 2014. The various activities included Hindi Kavya Paath, Poster Making, Mask Making, Video based Story Writing and Advertising of Eco friendly Products.
  • A short skit on Environmental Awareness was prepared under the guidance of Ms Shashi Sahni (TGT, Social Science) and presented in the morning assembly on 23 April 2014 to commemorate Earth Day.
  • Ms Shashi Sahni attended a workshop at TERI gram (Gurgaon) on 'Leadership & Innovative Ideas for Sustainable Development' on 28-30 October 2013. School audit for 'Soil' was conducted in December.
  • Waste Paper collection for the HT initiated project 'Read, Recycle, Renew' is being carried out according to a well formulated plan for waste paper collection. All the posters and charts used in the stalls in the Winter Carnival were collected through the project.
  • Green Olympiad (Junior) organized by TERI was held in the school on 3 December 2013. 54 students of the Primary Department participated.
  • Students of class VII prepared Display boards on various Environment related topics.
  • Students of Senior department participated in 'Paryavaran Jagriti Abhiyan' orgainsed by Department of Environment & Forests. A film on soil conservation, 'Timbuktu' was screened for the Club members of classes IX-XI. As a part of the programme Ms R B Gupta attended a workshop on 'Environment, Climate Change & Livelihood & Sustainability' on 5 December 2013.
  • Society for Promotion of Wasteland Development (SPWD) organized an Inter school competition on 11 December 2013. Geetanjali Gakhar and Sehaj Preet Kaur of IX F participated in the Poem Recitation Competition and Article Presentation Competition on the theme, Soil Conservation.
  • Club members showcased various aspects of the theme Sustainable Development through the Display Board on the first floor of senior wing, which is being regularly maintained by Environment Club.
  • A stall on the theme 'Life Style Changes for a Cleaner, Greener Environment' was set up in the Winter Carnival. The aim was to spread awareness on how small changes at individual level can contribute towards environmental sustainability.
  • Display Board on second floor in Senior Secondary building was prepared to create awareness on Food Security & Organic Farming.
  • The club members are enthusiastically working on the topic Energy Conservation, allotted to the school for the project 'Greening with Goethe', an initiative of Goethe Institut. Students from Germany, India, Sri Lanka and Czech Republic will be participating in the Environment Youth Conference to be held in Bremen - Germany in 2013.
  • 200kg of waste paper was sent to Hindustan Times on 11 September 2013 for the project 'Read, Recycle Renew'.
